Michelin will be laying off about 130 workers at its tire cord plant in Winnsboro, S.C. in two months.

The company will cut 118 jobs among hourly wage earners and 12 salaried positions because it said it can buy the material at less cost from an outside supplier, according to Columbia newspaper, The State.
A spokeswoman for the plant said there are no plans to close the plant, no plans for further cuts and no plans to sell the facility.
"It's future is dependent on the tire market and how competitive the plant can be."
