Autocar recently celebrated the opening of its new headquarters and manufacturing facility at 551 S. Washington Street in Hagerstown, Ind.

The event, which was attended by local media and government officials, took place in the main lobby area and included a ribbon cutting followed by remarks by Autocar management and a guided tour of the new facility.
Autocar announced its purchase of the Hagerstown facility in November of 2002. In addition to serving as its headquarters, the Hagerstown facility will be used to assemble the company's Autocar Xpeditor heavy-duty low-cab-over engine (LCOE) trucks.
"This is a big day for Hagerstown and for our employees," said Bob Atkins, general manager for Autocar. "We all look forward to working here and becoming active, contributing members of this fine community."
Autocar was formed in July 2001, when parent company Grand Vehicle Works Holdings Corp. purchased the Autocar name and the Xpeditor truck line from Volvo Trucks North America Inc.
Grand Vehicle Works Holdings Corp. is a holding company whose subsidiaries are national leaders in niche transportation markets. Its headquarters are in Highland Park, Ill., and its manufacturing facilities are located in Hagerstown, Ind., Union City, Ind., and Mexico.
