PrePass says it has solidified its position as a leader in e-clearance technology, showing a more-than-40% growth in 2002.
ACS is the system integrator and operator of the PrePass system. Launched in California in 1995 and currently operational at 228 locations, the system offers motor carriers with good safety records the opportunity to comply electronically with size, weight and safety credential requirements, while bypassing inspection facilities at highway speed.
"2002 was a watershed year for PrePass," said Walt Keeney, president of Food Express and chairman of HELP, Inc., the public-private partnership sponsoring PrePass.
"System growth on all fronts –- truck enrollments, site deployments and weigh station bypasses –- was remarkable."
PrePass grew from 191 sites in 2001 to a total of 228 by the end of 2002, adding 37 sites to the network in one year
The number of trucks equipped with PrePass transponders grew from 187,000 to more than 220,000.
In addition, 20 million weigh station stops were eliminated through PrePass’ electronic compliance procedure as compared to 14 million in the prior year.
PrePass is a sophisticated technology that enables qualified motor carriers to comply electronically with state weight, safety and credential requirements while traveling at highway speeds.
Only motor carriers with proven safety records qualify to participate in PrePass, and participation is voluntary. As qualified trucks approach a PrePass-equipped inspection facility, an in-cab transponder identifies the vehicle to a computer, which certifies compliance with state safety and credential requirements. Vehicles in compliance receive a green light on the in-cab transponder instructing them to bypass the inspection facility without ever slowing down.
Twenty-four states have deployed PrePass: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
