Starting Wednesday, three bridges along Interstate 5 in the Eugene, Ore., area will be limited to normal axles loads on the northbound and southbound lanes.
Traffic will be restricted to 20,000 pounds per single axle, 34,000 pounds per tandem axle, and a total GVW at or under 105,500 pounds.
Annual permit heavy-haul loads and all single-trip permit loads will be prohibited.
The bridges cross the Willamette and McKenzie rivers between mileposts 192 and 198. The Oregon Department of Transportation has found cracks in the beams supporting the bridge decks. The restrictions will be in effect until the bridges can be replaced, which could take as long as five years. Detour routes have been mailed to annual permit holders and posted on the Internet at www.odot.state.or.us/comm/newscenter/releases.htm.
