Ryder System Inc., provider of transportation and supply chain management solutions, has been selected by Carpenter Technology Corp., manufacturer of specialty metals, to design and implement a comprehensive transportation management program.

The program is designed to cost-effectively transport Carpenter Technology's products, which are used in hundreds of applications from industrial tools to jet engines to fuel injectors and medical implants, as well as manage its third-party carriers.
"One of our biggest challenges in transportation is to find ways to optimize lanes and leverage services with a select group of carriers while reducing costs," said David Brouse, director of Supply Chain Operations and Services for Carpenter Technology. "Ryder has demonstrated its leadership and service by providing a solution that allows us to evaluate and leverage the best and most cost-effective use of our carrier base."
Under the contract, Ryder will plan and manage transportation of Carpenter Technology's finished products from its two mills and seven distribution centers to hundreds of customer locations.
Ryder is a Fortune 500 company providing leading-edge logistics, supply chain and transportation management solutions worldwide.
