A new satellite asset monitoring system called GeoLogic has been launched by a partnership of three companies, and will soon be deployed on more than 12,000 trailers, according to Aether Systems Inc.
The system is being introduced by Aether, a provider of wireless and mobile data solutions, in partnership with TransCommunications Inc., a provider of business solutions for the transportation industry, and the Mobilacomm Eagle division of BOT Engineering.
GeoLogic improves fleet security, safety and operational effectiveness, according to Aether, which also announced that U.S. Xpress Enterprises Inc., the fifth-largest publicly owned truckload carrier in the country, has agreed to deploy the system on its entire fleet of more than 12,000 trailers.
GeoLogic allows fleet managers to monitor thousands of trailers in the field by using a unique, user-configurable event-driven and exception-based alert reporting system.
The company says its a low-cost asset management and tracking solution that incorporates the use of "geo-fences" and pre-determined events such as arrivals, departures, entry to the trailer, and disconnection from the truck to help with mission critical and secure load planning.
The software integrated into the trucking company's fleet management system makes GeoLogic unique from other tracking products. Integration allows the software to alert the appropriate personnel to potential problems with the movement or lack of movement of their trailers. Data received from the devices is also used for trailer pool management and asset detention subsystems.
In addition, alerts regarding specific routes and geography can help ensure that vehicles containing hazardous materials do not stray from their intended course or enter customer-designated protected zones.
"We have succeeded in going well beyond simply putting a dot on a map and providing a report of where the trailer has been," said Jim Coppinger, CEO of Transcommunications.
Based in Chattanooga, Tenn., U.S. Xpress has been testing GeoLogic for the past several years.
