Aether Systems Inc., a leading provider of wireless and mobile data solutions, has announced that Trans-System Inc., a truckload carrier based in Spokane, Wash., has agreed to upgrade its mobile communications system with Aether MobileMax.

Trans-System plans to install MobileMax in more than 500 trucks, replacing an earlier solution that provided single-mode technology.
Aether MobileMax uses a multi-mode system that automatically switches between land-based and satellite communications without driver or dispatcher intervention to ensure complete coverage and more cost-efficient communications.
The MobileMax system transmits dispatch and data messages as well as GPS position reports, and provides data on state-line crossings, vehicle fault codes, proximity alerts and driver performance.
Trans-System consists of three operating divisions: System Transport, a flatbed operation, TW Transport, a refrigerated and dry van operation and James J. Williams, a bulk commodities hauling operation. The company operates in the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico and is supported by a national network of terminals and sales offices.
"We thoroughly evaluated many options for upgrading our mobile communications and tracking system, and Aether MobileMax rose to the top due to its reliability, coverage, features and pricing," said Dale Peterson, chief operating officer of Trans-System. "Our company has always valued technology and we believe that the multi-mode capabilities of MobileMax make it the very best in the industry."
