Cummins Inc. has been presented with the prestigious "Newsmaker of the Year" award by Diesel Progress magazine.
The award recognizes the top newsmaker in the diesel power industry for the year 2002.

"Cummins edged out the competition as the company, person, technology, market or subject that -- in the opinion of our editorial staff -- made the most news in 2002," said Mike Osenga, publisher of Diesel Progress.
Cummins was recognized for its leadership in framing the emissions debate for on-highway trucks, launching its new A Series engines and for its technology leadership in meeting the future Tier III off-highway standards.
The award was presented to Joe Loughrey, Cummins executive vice president and president of the engine business at the company's corporate headquarters in Columbus, Ind.
"We are thrilled to be recognized by Diesel Progress as 'Newsmaker of the Year'," said Loughrey. "It has been a challenging year for us. Through a lot of hard work and dedication we were able to live up to our commitments to the EPA, while meeting customer requirements in all the markets we serve."
Cummins took an aggressive leadership position developing the right technology to meet both off-highway and on-highway emissions standards. As a result, in March, the company announced that it had developed products to meet the future Tier III off-highway emissions standards without requiring expensive aftertreatment or changes to OEM equipment. In April, Cummins became the first engine manufacturer to have an engine compliant to the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) stringent new emission regulations for on-highway diesel engines. Cummins then certified the most complete line of on-highway compliant engines in the industry.
Cummins Inc. is a corporation of complementary business units that design, manufacture, distribute and service electrical power generation systems, engines and related technologies, including fuel systems, controls, air handling, filtration and emission solutions.
