Sales of Class 8 trucks in October were up 27.2% compared with year-ago levels,
according to a report issued this week by Crain Communications Inc.
Kenworth, owned by Paccar Inc. of Bellevue, Wash., reported the sharpest percentage increase, up 123% to 1,800 units.
Mack posted the second-largest percentage increase, up 48.9% to 2,030 units. Peterbilt, also owned by Paccar, had the third-highest percentage gain, up 38.3% to 1,523 units.
Freightliner, owned by DaimlerChrysler, was the only Class 8 truckmaker to post a decline in October. Freightliner's sales dropped 3% to 4,331 units.
For the first 10 months of the year, sales of Class 8 trucks were up 4.5% to 123,591 units.
