ALK Technologies Inc. of Orlando, Fla., has announced the release of CoPilot Truck 2003, a second generation of the laptop-based GPS system for truck drivers.

An expansive overhaul has been made to the street-level routing database and new business features have been added. This solution should improve the over-the-road experience and help drivers increase their on-time performance from dock-to-dock.
CoPilot Truck combines the industry-standard truck routing, mileage and mapping capabilities of ALK's PC*Miler Solutions with the award-winning in-vehicle GPS navigation and route guidance technology of its CoPilot product line. This combination creates the first on-board navigation system specifically designed for owner-operators, leased-operators and company drivers. ALK has improved the North American database by adding 14 million street addresses and 100,000 new streets nationwide.
Drivers can now route across the country using a number of routing options including: Practical, Shortest, Toll Avoidance, National Network or 53-Foot Trailer Routing. Users enter a street address, intersection or truckstop as a destination and receive turn-by-turn, spoken directions based on the routing type selected.
CoPilot Truck provides instant and automatic route recalculation within seconds of missing a turn or going out-of-route for any reason. Using the Detour feature drivers can route around traffic or construction immediately, and lane change warnings will alert the driver if an upcoming exit requires being in the left lane.
"CoPilot Truck is truly the only in-vehicle GPS navigation solution designed specifically for professional truck drivers," said Craig Fiander, director of marketing, ALK Technologies. "It now takes into consideration whether you're hauling an oversized load or 53' trailer. By providing truck-specific street-level driving directions, CoPilot Truck keeps drivers on the most efficient route saving them time and money."
The laptop-based GPS navigation and route guidance system is being sold direct through the CoPilot Truck web site at www.CoPilotTruck.com.
