The National Assn. Of Truck Stop Operators (NATSO) has announced that William Fay will become president and CEO of the national trade association representing America's travel plazas and truckstops.
Fay will begin his new position in December.
The announcement followed a unanimous vote by NATSO's board of directors in Chicago, Ill., to name Fay president.
"With Bill's extensive experience as an energetic leader and strong advocate in Washington, I have no doubt that he will aggressively protect and advance NATSO's interests," said NATSO Chairman James B. Goetz, who led the presidential search committee. "His proven leadership and impressive coalition-building skills will certainly strengthen our association."
Fay, who currently heads the American Highway Users Alliance, has spent more than 20 years in Washington as a trade association executive and Senate staff member. While serving as the national spokesperson for 45 million American motorists, truckers and businesses, Fay administered coalition efforts to secure a 44% increase in highway funding.
Among his other accomplishments, he greatly expanded the membership of the American Highway Users Alliance, helped lead lobbying efforts in support of a firewall to protect the Highway Trust Fund and coordinated the national campaign to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Interstate Highway System.
W. Dewey Clower, NATSO's president of 15 years, is retiring at the end of this year.
NATSO is a trade association representing 1,200 travel plazas and truckstops nationwide. Its members provide fuel, food and other products and services to professional drivers and highway travelers throughout America. Founded in 1960, NATSO represents the $42 billion industry on legislative and regulatory matters.
