Landstar System Inc. is using TransFlo Express truckstop scanning from Pegasus TransTech at participating truckstops.
Drivers hand their documents to a fuel desk attendant for scanning. In seconds, these documents are delivered electronically to the fleet for immediate billing and payroll processing.
One of the nation's largest transportation capacity providers, Landstar says it does not employ "drivers." Instead, the company contracts with what it calls "independent business capacity owners" (BCOs) and thousands of broker carriers, who own and operate the equipment used to haul freight.
"This is a huge time saver for us," said Ruth Day, vice president of administration at Landstar. "We scan about 40,000 documents a day and are thrilled BCOs can now scan their trip documents at the truckstops. It's more convenient for them and it spreads our workflow throughout the day instead of all the trip information showing up at once."
According to Landstar, speeding up the company's settlement process puts BCOs' money in their pockets more quickly. Additionally, Landstar is using new document recognition software from Pegasus and the latest bar coding technology to enable BCOs to index their own documents, ensuring accuracy as they enter the settlement process.
