Eaton Corp. is closing down its truck transmission operation in Texas Township, Mich. early next year as it consolidates the work at an Indiana facility.

The Cleveland-based company cited a need to reduce costs, remain competitive and increase profitability in its decision, which will eliminate 73 area jobs, according to the Kalamazoo Gazette. Work from the Kalamazoo County plant will be shifted to Greenfield, Ind.
Design work at Eaton's truck-division headquarters in Charleston Township, where the company employs 450 workers, will continue.
About 25 new positions will be created in Greenfield because of the move, and interested Texas Township employees will be considered for jobs there and elsewhere in the company.
Eaton, a $7.3 billion diversified industrial company that makes auto and truck parts and aerospace equipment, has about 47,000 employees.
