The Truckload Carriers Assn. is now accepting applications for its Company Equipment Driver of the Year and Independent Contractor of the Year contests for 2002.

The contest(s) are open to all truckload carrier drivers who have driven at least 1 million consecutive accident-free miles, not just TCA members. TCA has narrowed the total list of winners to only five in each contest, making the contest more competitive. The deadline for drivers to get their application forms in is Oct. 11.
In the 16th annual Independent Contractor of the Year Contest, owner-operators will be evaluated based on their ability to run a successful business, operate in a safe manner over the public highways, and enhance the public image of the trucking industry.
Over $100,000 in prizes will be awarded to the top five independent contractor winners.
In the 14th annual Company Equipment Driver of the Year Contest, five company-employed drivers are selected based on the their safety records, work history, and past awards and recognition.
The winners of both contests will be announced at the TCA Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida, March 9-12, 2003.
The application process for both contests occurs in two steps. The pre-application form is due Oct. 11, 2002. You’ll find the pre-application form at www.truckload.org in the contests section. Finalists will be notified by Oct. 25 and asked to submit a second, more detailed application by Dec. 16. Drivers who have won the grand prize in either contest before are not eligible to enter the contest again. Second and third place winners are not eligible to apply again for two years from the date of their winning.
