The new American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) web site is now up and running, providing research information on the trucking industry.
ATRI is the research arm of the American Trucking Assns.(ATA).
The site, located at www.atri-online.org , details work currently under way on ATRI's 2002-2003 research agenda, including transportation security, safety and human factors; technology and training; and economic analysis and environmental factors.
"The ATRI site should be required reading for transportation policy makers at both the federal and state levels," said Michael W. Wickham, chairman and CEO of Roadway Corp. and also the chairman of ATRI. "It is very important for them to have access to the best of sound transportation science and research as they develop the rules and regulations the trucking industry must live by."
"It makes a difference when the people who make the rules understand the depth of the trucking industry's commitment to safety and the breadth of our importance to the national economy, and the ATRI web site will help bring it home to them," said William Canary, ATA president and CEO.
"What is good the White House is good for the statehouse, too," said J. Richards "Rick" Todd, president of the South Carolina Trucking Assn. and national chairman of the Trucking Assns. Executive Council, the umbrella group for all 50 ATA-affiliated state trucking associations and conferences. "The ATRI web site is a much-needed tool for those of us in the front lines out in the states."
