Qualcomm Inc., a developer of mobile communications solutions for the transportation industry, has announced that Frito-Lay is replacing its existing fleet management system with Qualcomm's satellite-based mobile communications solution.

Frito-Lay has signed a contract with Qualcomm to install more than 1,100 OmniTRACS and OmniExpress mobile communications system units, and 4,400 TrailerTRACS asset management system units this year.
"We are pleased to have Frito-Lay as a Qualcomm customer," said Chris Wolfe, president of Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions. "Working together, we are ensuring that Frito-Lay has a fully integrated mobile communications solution that enables them to address their need to provide customers with better services while improving trailer utilization."
"The ability to monitor and track our assets real-time is invaluable in helping us maintain our competitive edge," said Gary Berger, director of supply chain optimization for Frito-Lay.
Frito-Lay plans to incorporate a fully integrated QUALCOMM solution that will include the MVPc in-vehicle computers with the FleetAdvisor on-board mobile applications. Applications include electronic driver logs, automatic state mileage collection, which collects various trip activities and events.
