Automotive technology supplier Delphi is expanding its involvement in the commercial vehicle market.

In 2001, Delphi's revenue from commercial vehicle customers was almost $600 million. By 2005, the company projects that commercial vehicle technologies will account for more than $1 billion in revenue.
Recent business in the commercial vehicle sector include emissions control technologies for International Truck and Engine Corporation, advanced diesel injection systems and electrical / electronic distribution systems for Volvo Truck, and a variety of products including thermal systems, electronics and heavy-duty batteries for other manufacturers.
Delphi introduced the first self-starter in 1911, soon followed by the first radio to be integrated with the dashboard. More recently, Delphi launched the first satellite digital audio radio receivers for an OEM application and in 2001 launched a smart radio, the Communiport Truck Productivity Computer, that uses voice recognition and text-to-speech technology.
Delphi's product portfolio for truck manufacturers covers many areas of advanced technology, including fuel injection and engine management systems, interior systems including modular doors, occupant protection systems, energy-efficient air conditioning compressors, electrical and electronic distribution systems, connection systems, and mobile communication systems. A particular strength is vehicle electronics, a technology area that some analysts predict will account for up to 40 percent of the value of vehicles by 2010.
