Patch Rubber Co., in conjunction with Tracking Systems LLC and Nexiq Technologies, has introduced the Tire-Track System, a barcode patch/software package to help tire fleet managers maintain and analyze information about a tire's repair, maintenance and service history.

The system enables managers to predict tire maintenance, justify purchases and avoid tire failures, according to the company. In addition, the system identifies the causes of tire failure; evaluates tire performance from a number of vendors or models; reviews relationships between vehicle type and tire performance; identifies original casings after retreading; and discourages theft or substitution.
The new system includes an ID unit with labels designed for tires, software, handheld scanners, installation, training and ongoing technical support. Fleets with scanners can use Tire-Track without buying new equipment. The system relies on an embedded barcode patch bonded to a tire's casing.
