A trucker who many onlookers said saved lives in a Seattle-area crash was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported that trucker Robert Powell came upon a line of slow traffic backed up on I-90 trying to get off at an exit ramp near Issaquah. He moved onto the shoulder to avoid hitting the line of backed-up traffic. When a car swerved in front of him, the truck’s brakes locked up as he tried to stop, and one of the two tanker trailers overturned and caught fire.
Although several witnesses praised Powell’s actions, the paper reports, state troopers cited the driver – not for violating the 60-mph speed limit, but for driving too fast for rush hour.
Road crews had to work all night to repair the damage from the fire.
