Much of the state of Tennessee remains closed for business.

On Tuesday, state government and services were in the second day of an unprecedented shutdown as state lawmakers failed to reach an agreement on a new state budget on Sunday night, forcing thousands of non-essential state workers to be furloughed.
The impasse has resulted in several state agencies and departments being closed down, including the Department of Motor Vehicles and state rest areas.
However, the State Highway Patrol remains on the job.
The Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association reported the closings have included offices for the Tennessee International Registration Plan and state license bureau. They also reported that officers won’t be lenient during this situation, meaning that if someone’s driver’s license has expired, they are simply out of luck.
The state is operating on an emergency budget that expires on Friday.
