Navistar International has obtained a permanent injunction limiting striking workers numbers outside its plant in Chatham, Ontario.

Company spokesman Roy Wiley told Truckinginfo.com the company was granted the injunction on Monday, but noted they have no plans to bus in replacement workers on Tuesday to the plant, where production has been greatly reduced with managers and supervisors filling in.
According to Wiley, this permanent injunction limits picketer numbers to 50. Unlike a previous temporary injunction that expired on Monday, it requires the people on the picket lines to be members of Canadian Auto Workers Local 127.
Union members walked out over the company’s plans to implement $14 million worth of cost cutting measure at the plant, forcing International to transfer truck manufacturing operations to its plant in Mexico.
Despite a temporary injunction limiting strikers numbers, two weeks ago protestors outside the plant clashed with guards hired by a private security firm on more than one occasion. The incidents resulted in injuries, with charges being filed against picketers and one guard who was driving a bus transporting replacement workers.
Since that time members of the CAW have threatened to call in workers from nearby auto plants to add to the numbers on the International picket lines in the event the company makes a further attempt to bring in replacements.
Wiley would not elaborate if International has any plans to bring in replacement workers beyond Tuesday.
