MinorPlanet Systems USA, Richardson, Texas, announced it has entered the Los Angeles metropolitan market
with the mobile fleet solution called Vehicle Management Information, or VMI.
VMI monitors vehicle activity in real time over ground-based communications networks and is designed for fleets operating in specific regions. Besides Los Angeles, the company offers service in Atlanta and the Texas cities of Dallas, Houston and Austin.
The company also announced that stockholders have approved its name change from @Track Communications, the company once known as HighwayMaster Communications. The name change was announced in May and reflects majority ownership by Minorplanet Systems PLC of Leeds, England.
Among MinorPlanet’s competitors in Los Angeles and Texas is TeleTrac Inc., of Garden Grove, Calif., also headquartered in the U.K.
