Inter Control Inc., Burlington, Vt., has introduced its new Vehicle Information Management System, VIMS, which provides remote service diagnostics and prognostics to automatic vehicle location systems.

Inter Control is a leading supplier of mobile automation and information systems for the construction equipment and severe service truck markets.
Operating on the CANbus, the VIMS is a user-programmable, rugged black box device that collects data from the engine and vehicle automation system, condenses it down to valuable information, and then sends it to the AVL modem for transmission to the fleet manager.
Typical applications include public works and public transit vehicles, as well as severe service trucks such as concrete pumps and mixers, truck-mounted cranes, fire trucks and off-road construction equipment. In addition, the VIMS product may be used in stationary remote monitoring sites and marine equipment.
A Cockpit Graphics Monitor, which provides a dual-mode function, is also available. Not only can the fleet manager be advised of the operations of the machine, but the operator can also view the same information from his own monitor. The CGM can be mounted outside and can be viewed in direct sunlight.
