Less-than-truckload giant Yellow Corp. is seeing freight pick up compared to a year ago.

In an interview with The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Yellow CEO William Zollars said the company will carry more freight this quarter than it did during the same period a year ago – the first such gain in 18 months.
“There is a definite pickup in economic activity,” Zollars told the paper. However, he called it “a slow, steady, glacial move forward” rather than a “V-shaped” recovery.
First quarter tonnage fell 9 percent and sales decline 11 percent from the year-earlier period. However, expected shipments and those for delivery at a set time are up 10 percent for this quarter, according to the paper.
