With the state of Nebraska in the throes of a drought not seen since the Dust Bowl of the 1930s, officials are warning drivers to stay off the highways on windy days because of blinding dust storms.

Last week, two men died in a 10-vehicle pileup when a dense cloud blinded drivers. An earlier pileup killed a truck driver.
Officials with the Nebraska Highway Patrol say when the winds start blowing, topsoil can get blown around to where it’s similar to a blizzard and visibility gets down to zero.
