On July 3, all trucks operating in interstate commerce should have the USDOT number on both sides of the cab.

Use of the DOT number instead of the ICC number has been a rule since July 3, 2000, but carriers were given two years to make the change on trucks already in the fleet at that time.
Trucks added to a carrier’s fleet on or after July 3, 2000, must display the legal name or trade name of the motor carrier operating the vehicle as listed in the motor carrier identification report (Form MCS-150). Trucks that were part of the carrier’s existing fleet before that date don’t have to be in compliance with this part of the rule until July 5, 2005.
Marking requirements are contained in 49 CFR Part 390.21 which can be accessed on the Internet at www.fmcsa.dot.gov.
