The Teamsters Union is showing its support for President Bush’s energy plan.

Dallas Teamsters Tuesday rallied in favor of the plan, along with Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) and Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham at a Yellow Transportation Co. terminal to show their support of the bill now being considered by the U.S. Senate. The gathering was one of several across the country yesterday, organized by the union.
"The Senate needs to immediately pass an energy bill that includes provisions for petroleum exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR)," said Tyson Johnson, Local 745 Secretary-Treasurer and Southern Region Vice-President. "These measures will make us less dependent on foreign sources of oil while creating jobs."
The Teamsters and their coalition allies are fighting for a straight up or down vote in the Senate. They say ANWR exploration will be a help to working families, saying oil exploration in the Arctic can take place with no negative impact on the environment.
Critics of the President Bush’s energy plan disagree. They maintain there is still no conclusive evidence there is enough oil in ANWR to warrant the risk of oil exploration in such an ecologically fragile area. They also say his plan does nothing to curb increasing energy use in the United States.
