NTE, Downers Grove, Ill., has launched a private web transportation community for the Industrial Division of Toshiba International Corp., Houston.

Toshiba International ships heavy industrial products to customers nationwide and to its satellite distribution center in Erlanger, Ky. NTE will be receiving hundreds of the company’s shipment tenders each month and executing them according to Toshiba’s routing instructions. Toshiba will use a combination of core carriers and carriers who are members of the NTE Public Exchange.
NTE was known as National Transportation Exchange when it created a market for unused space on truckload trailers in 1994. The company moved operations to the Internet in 1996, changed its name to NTE in 2000 and began creating private-label exchanges for major clients.
