Less-than-truckload customers of Con-Way Transportation Services, Ann Arbor, Mich., can now elect to receive their invoices electronically via e-mail.

"Our goal in developing this new capability was to incorporate ease of electronic invoice presentment (EIP) use by email and offer our customers operational and cost saving opportunities. Many of our customers are moving to this method of doing business," said Bryan Millican, Con-Way executive vice president, sales and marketing.
Customers can receive email notifications of newly created invoices regardless of the invoice presentment type -- paper, electronic data interface (EDI) or portable document format (PDF).
According to the company, customers who use EIP via email will be able to reduce data entry time, increase data entry accuracy, eliminate paper storage of invoices, improve speed and accuracy of invoice processing and better pre- plan their accounts payable.
According to company officials, the new e-business feature will also enable users to more quickly complete background research on invoices. The PDF will contain hyperlinks to the Con-Way document-imaging site, where they can retrieve, view and print copies of the bill of lading and delivery receipt for each shipment.
Customers can designate up to three separate email addresses to receive a copy of each electronic invoice. This allows the person making the shipment and the person making payment to more easily coordinate their auditing process. Another feature allows the customer to choose when they want to receive invoices. Delivery time options are daily or a designated day of the week.
