The truck driver who died avoiding a car that cut him off will be remembered with a memorial bridge at the crash site in Birmingham, Ala.
Tim Dison died Jan. 5 when his tanker truck crashed and exploded after a car cut him off at the intersection of Interstate 65 and I-20/59 in downtown Birmingham. Witnesses said Dison maneuvered his rig to avoid hitting other cars. The overpass above the crash site buckled in the intense heat of the fire. Rebuilt in a record 38 days, the overpass will be named the Tim Dison Memorial Bridge.
“It will be a testimony to a young man who gave his life and possibly saved a lot of other lives,” said John Rogers, state representative from Birmingham who pushed the resolution naming the bridge through the state legislature in the final days of the 2002 session.
A ceremony to officially name the bridge will be held as soon as signs are made.
