The Kansas Turnpike is putting up new service area buildings at several locations along the 236-mile toll road.

According to The Wichita Eagle, the restaurant near Towanda closed recently so contractors can work on a new building, which will be finished in November or December. The next one on the schedule is the one at Matfield Green. Both facilities are in buildings that are 45 years old.
McDonald's will operate those restaurants when the service centers reopen, while Phillips 66 will be the fuel supplier. Food and fuel facilities will be housed in the same building.
At the new Topeka facility opening in late spring or early summer, Hardee's will operate a restaurant that includes a taco shop, and ice cream shop, a pizza shop and a gourmet coffee shop.
No major changes are planned for turnpike service areas at Belle Plaine, south of Wichita, or at Lawrence, which are both newer facilities.
