Japan's Hino Motors is in negotiations with Swedish truck maker Scania.

According to published reports, the alliance could involve a mutual truck parts supply and joint development of environmentally friendly engines.
Hino is seen as strong in the lighter truck market, while Scania is more focused on heavy trucks.
Scania says it is talking to other companies in addition to Hino.
Some analysts say the talks could be the first stage in a full Toyota bid for Scania. (Toyota is Hino's parent company.)
