Vistar Telecommunications has received a $1.7 million order for MT2000 satellite data communications terminals and a system upgrade for the StarTrack's GlobalWave system in South Africa.

The order is part of a larger contractual commitment by StarTrack, the South African regional operator for Vistar's GlobalWave service. The terminals will be deployed in the South African transportation market for cross border vehicle tracking and management and vehicle and cargo theft prevention.
GlobalWave is a complete end-to-end wireless data system that allows users to automatically track, monitor and control fixed and mobile assets and send and receive data messages.
"The GlobalWave system is ideal for the South African market for several reasons," said Michael Zuliani, President and CEO of Vistar. "The satellite technology is well suited to the African continent, which currently has an underdeveloped communications infrastructure. Vehicle and cargo theft rates are high and there are vast areas of the country that are remote and sparsely populated. In this respect, the South African market represents a great opportunity for our technology and we expect to see additional orders in the near future."
The GlobalWave wireless data terminals are designed and manufactured by Vistar. The terminals are extremely powerful, with GPS integrated into every unit and feature fast, reliable two-way data communications designed to support a full range of input/output devices such as keyboard display units, two-way pagers, hand held devices and various sensors, in the harshest environments.
