The Hazardous Materials Advisory Council has changed its name to reflect a more global attitude.

HMAC is an international, non-profit, educational organization devoted to promoting safety in domestic and international transportation of dangerous goods. Effective Jan. 1, 2002, it is now called the Dangerous Goods Advisory Council. The new name more accurately reflects the international transportation industry, since the United States is the only country that uses the term "hazardous materials."
