New Jersey is raising the speed limit to 65 mph on 125 more miles of highways.
That's in addition to the 475 miles of highway that got the higher speed limit in 1998.
Starting Saturday, the higher speed limit will be in effect on parts of 11 more highways. The longest stretch will be 35 miles of Interstate 287 between Route 1 in Edison and Morristown. Interstates 78 and 80 will get their 65-mph speed limits extended further east. Interstate 80 will get the higher limit for about 11 miles, from 287 to west of Route 23, while I-78 will get an additional 8 miles, from Route 24 into Newark. Routes 24 and 280 will get 65-mph speed limits for the first time, each about an 8-mile section.
