Drivers for Pat Salmon & Sons, a major contractor for the U.S. Postal Service, went back to work after only two days on strike.

According to published reports, the American Postal Workers Union approached the trucking company with a proposal to end the strike. The union started the strike Tuesday morning after contract talks broke down over health insurance premiums. Between 800 and 900 drivers were at strike at five terminals. It ended just after 5 p.m. Thursday.
Union officials said mail was backed up in the system because of the strike, but company officials told reporters the company felt no pressure, using temporary drivers to transport the mail in the busy holiday mail season.
