If sales of new trucks don’t improve soon, International Truck & Engine is warning there could be further layoffs at the company.

According to published reports, the company already laid off 400 workers last month from its Springfield, Ohio, assembly plant, and those numbers could increase the first of next year.
A spokesman for International parent Navistar International has been quoted as saying between 100 and 500 additional employees could be laid off as soon as March at the same plant. According to a spokesman for the plant, the exact number of layoffs won’t be known until next month.
The company has reportedly already told union members about the possible cutbacks. International has already cut more than 1,100 jobs in Springfield this year, which now employs some 3,100 people compared to 4,600 in October of last year.
