FreightTracing.com is a new low-cost, web-based tool that aggregates and displays up-to-the-minute shipment information
such as location of a shipment, status (picked up, delayed, in transit, cross docked, consignee refused, etc.), and carrier and trailer numbers.
It enables users to manage their tracing and tracking needs in real time, by any carrier, by any consignee or destination, by any date or sequence, by any origin or pick up point, and by size or type of shipment.
According to Alan Miller, President of TransportGistics Inc., which is offering the service, "while a multitude of carriers offer shipment tracking information on their web sites, the time and costs associated with obtaining shipment information has become excessive." Currently when a request to trace a shipment is received, vendors first have to identify the order number or Bill of Lading number, then have to figure out via which carrier the shipment was sent, and then access the carriers' web site to trace the shipment. Also, alternative tracking and tracing methods typically are limited to simple status reports, while FreightTracing provides proof of delivery and triggers alerts in the event that a shipment will be delayed or achieves other user configurable statuses.
Users also can create shipment status reports and then electronically e-mail them to anyone who needs to know. They can activate an alert function to automatically identify problems or potential problems and be notified in time to make proactive decisions. And they can use the delivery information to automatically send notices to consignees, warehouse, or accounts payable, all with the highest level of security because only those with appropriate levels of access can obtain the tracking information.
