The Technology and Maintenance Council of the American Trucking Assns. presented its highest award, the Silver Spark Plug, for dedicated service and leadership in maintenance management to five TMC members.

TMC General Chairman James Salas of Ryder Transportation Services made the presentations at TMC's recent fall meeting in Jacksonville, Fla.
The recipients were:
  • Charles Groeller, senior staff engineer, Mack Trucks, a TMC member since 1992 and a dynamic force in the Electrical and Instruments and Engine study groups;
  • Al Cohn, market manager, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., a member of TMC since 1993 who has helped TMC develop procedures and educational materials related to tire maintenance, specification and performance;
  • J. David Walters, supervisor of warranty and field service, Alcoa Wheel Products International, a member since 1993 and an active leader in TMC's Tire & Wheel Study Group;
  • Tom Smego, director of sales, Chicago Rawhide/SKF and a member since 1989;
  • Rick Muth, general service manager, Eaton Corp., a member since 1983. Smego and Muth have worked as a team for more than a decade, serving on every TMC wheel-end-related task force.
    The recipients were awarded the Silver Spark Plug for their outstanding contributions to the improvement of equipment, its maintenance, and maintenance management through Study Group leadership. Both fleet representatives and members of the supplier community are eligible.
