DaimlerChrysler is expected to announce its turnaround plans for financially troubled Freightliner subsidiary within the next few days, at least a week earlier than originally planned.

DaimlerChrysler spokesman Michael Behrens told Bloomberg, “We're wrapping things up. We'll come out with the plan in the next few days.'' Some sources believe the news could come as early as today. Previous reports indicated the announcement was expected on Oct. 19.
The restructuring is expected to include plant closures.
Freightliner has already been making moves to cut costs in the past few weeks, getting its unions to agree to lower pay and benefits and cutting pay, benefits and bonuses for non-union employees. It also reportedly has been negotiating with fleets to change the terms of guaranteed buyback contracts, asking fleets to keep trucks longer and take less for them when they are traded back in.
