Freightliner has bought 10 acres next to its Mount Holly, N.C., manufacturing plant, where it will build a new medium-duty truck line next year.

The Charlotte Observer reports that Freightliner will add to the existing plant on land it already owns, but needed the extra 10 acres to meet watershed requirements.
The move comes as the company prepares to announce a major turnaround plan later this month. Other published reports have indicated that the company is cutting wages, bonuses and benefits. In the past year, Freightliner has laid off thousands of workers because of the slowdown in the economy and the slumping market for truck sales.
