Baltimore-based UPS Logistics Group has introduced version 5.1 of its MOBILECAST transportation management system.

This version follows on the heels of version 5.0, which was released in June. This latest MOBILECAST release integrates the DT-240 onboard computer from Tripmaster Corp. of Arlington, Texas, the result of an alliance announced in May.
MOBILECAST 5.1 is a client/server-based dispatch and delivery system that features GPS tracking, logistics management and wireless communications. The system uses Symbol 2700 PPT handheld computers and advanced scanning applications. For example, the driver is alerted when an incorrect product is scanned or missing product is discovered. Items can be checked and scanned during loading and delivery and variances can be instantly accounted for by indicating over, short or damaged quantities with specific reason codes.
An enhanced service failure notification can automatically generate e-mails to inform customers of delays in service before the driver arrives.
The Tripmaster DT-240 provides the vehicle interface for MOBILECAST, gathering data such as road speed, odometer reading, engine RPM, fuel consumption and GPS location.
