Orbcomm LLC, Dulles, Va., the new owner of the world's first low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite system, has named Hans E. W. Hoffmann CEO and president.


According to the Orbcomm announcement, Hoffmann has more than 35 years experience in aerospace engineering and satellite communications. He has worked on a number of high-profile space launch programs and was most recently president of STN Atlas Elektronik GmbH, a German corporation in the aerospace, navy equipment and military markets.
Hoffmann has received NASA's Distinguished Public Service Medal and Aviation Week's Man of the Year Award.
Orbcomm recently emerged from a period of financial difficulties under new ownership. Orbcomm offers a breadth of asset management services, including trailer tracking through Arinc, a value-added reseller based in Annapolis, Md.
