The National Labor Relations Board has ordered less-than-truckload carrier Overnite Transportation to begin contract negotiations with Teamsters at seven more of the company's terminals.

This is the latest move in a long, bitter fight between Overnite and the union; last week the Teamsters filed a bad-faith bargaining complaint with the NLRB and Overnite threatened to do the same.
The Teamsters claim that the board's order brings Teamster representation to 36 of Overnite terminals, covering approximately 45 percent of the company's drivers and dock workers.
This latest decision is the result of an appeal of a 1999 decision by an administrative law judge. According to the Teamsters, the NLRB found that Overnite committed "nationwide, publicized, and repeated violations" which affect all employees. In particular, the NLRB found that Overnite "implemented discriminatory wage increases" in violation of federal law, giving pay increases to non-union employees.
The NLRB ordered that Overnite has an obligation to bargain with the Teamsters at each of the seven terminals: Dayton, Ohio; Richfield, Ohio; Nitro, W.V.; Parkersburg, W.V.; Nashville, Tenn.; Rockford, Ill.; and Bensalem, Pa.
The NLRB also ordered a new election at Overnite's Chattanooga, Tenn., terminal.
