Beginning Sept. 6, the Oregon Department of Transportation will implement load restrictions on the bridge over the Deschutes River on Highway 301 in Wasco County.

Traffic over the bridge will be restricted to annual permit loads of 105,500 pounds.
Recent inspections have discovered cracks throughout the concrete girders. These cracks lessen the load carrying capacity of the structure. The bridge is being monitored daily and might be closed if the cracks grow in length or width.
The detour route is I-84 to Biggs or Celilo, an out-of-route distance of 7 miles.
Oregon has an increased number of bridges with weight restrictions for heavy trucks and vehicles. Oregon's bridges were designed to be replaced after about 50 years, and the state has more than 350 bridges that are nearing the end of their planned use.
