Newport Communications' annual TruckerFest, held at The Alamo Travel Center in Reno/Sparks, Nev., will host a blood drive.

This is the third year that the Alamo has invited local non-profit blood bank United Blood Services to hold a blood drive during TruckerFest. It will be held Friday, Aug. 17, and Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Alamo.
"Summer, especially late summer, is a very scary time for us," said United Blood Service spokesperson Alana Ladd-Ross. "Not too many people donate to begin with, and even less do so in the summer. The donations from TruckerFest … help us get through to the Labor Day weekend."
Donating blood is safe, takes only about 45 minutes, and could help as many as three people with one donation.
TruckerFest will also feature exhibits, a free concert by Neal McCoy for truck drivers and their companions, free steak dinners for truck drivers and their companions, a fireworks display, trucker games and more. For more information, visit www.truckerfest.com.
