The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has signed a contract to pay $11.2 million for 22 of Oshkosh's new Striker airport rescue and fire fighting vehicles.

The trucks were purchased as part of a complete ARFF fleet replacement and upgrade program. They will be used at all three of the Port Authority's major airports - John F. Kennedy International, Newark International, and LaGuardia.
The Port Authority is taking delivery of 14 units with 3,000-gallon water capacity and eight with 1,500-gallon water capacity.
All of the units feature Oshkosh's TAK-4(TM) independent suspension, all-wheel drive, driver enhanced vision systems, and a monitoring and data acquisition system that monitors vehicle operating parameters. The power train includes a Twin Disc TD61-1180 electronic, automatic transmission and a 650-horsepower Caterpillar diesel engine.
The New York and New Jersey Port Authority has been using Oshkosh ARFF vehicles since 1988. Delivery of the 22 new apparatus is scheduled to begin in spring 2002.
