Starting July 6, watch out for weekend closures of a stretch of I-285 on the southeast side of Atlanta.

A 7.8-mile segment will be closed to remove and replace 11 inches of deteriorated asphalt. The project is scheduled to last through the end of the year, with no work scheduled on holiday weekends.
Phase one will begin with the closure of all south/westbound lanes. Phase two will close the north/eastbound lanes.
The asphalt to be replaced was laid nearly 20 years ago. Over time, water penetration has caused sub-layers of the roadway to deteriorate, creating cracks and bumps in the road surface.
A final phase, applying a final smooth surface to the roadway, will be done between march and June of next year.
