A driver recruiting service and truck driver training school chain have partnered to offer scholarships to budding truck drivers.

MTA Training Centers of Harrisburg, Pa., and 1-800-Drivers of Houston plan to give away one free three-week CDL training course per quarter. The courses are valued at $3,500 to $4,500, depending on location.
To qualify, applicants must complete a 100-word or less paragraph describing why they want to be a trucker. The applications will be judged by a six-person panel, including two experienced truck drivers and representatives from the two sponsoring companies.
“This program will allow us to expand our mission of bringing new drivers into the industry and providing good jobs for drivers of all types,” said Jim O’Neill, 1-800-Drivers founder. “We realize the driver shortage will never be solved by trading drivers back and forth between companies, and we’re doing everything we can to increase the pool of drivers.”
Applications are being accepted from now until Aug. 31 for the first available scholarships. For more information, go to www.1800drivers.com.
