A bill passed by the Oregon House of Representatives this week would raise the fee for getting a new vehicle title by nine-fold for heavy trucks.

The flat $10 fee for getting or transferring a title would be raised to $30 for most autos and $90 for heavy trucks.
The fees are part of a plan to back $400 million in bonds for highway projects.
The Legislature ruled out using fuel tax increases to pay for the much-needed highway construction after voters slammed a 5-cent-per-gallon increase passed by the 1999 Legislature. (That bill also would have abolished the state's weight-distance tax in favor of higher fuel taxes.)
